Privacy Policy

The short version

• You can learn without an account. Your learning records, saved items and answers stay on your device; the app does not send them to us or to any AI provider.
• The app does not access your microphone, recognize speech, record audio or offer AI feedback. It has no advertising, cross-app tracking or analytics SDK, and we do not sell data.
• Purchases are handled by Apple on iOS or Google Play on Android and checked on your device. The Android app does not connect to our learning or purchase servers. On iOS, the only connection to our own service is an optional request, started by you, to delete data created by an earlier iOS version.

1. Information that stays on your device

Learning records, saved expressions and references, recall-card schedules, interface and explanation language, playback and display preferences, and optional reminder settings are stored locally on your iPhone, iPad or Android device. Optional practice reminders are scheduled locally by the operating system, with notification permission where required. There is no app account or automatic learning-data synchronization with us.

If you updated from an earlier iOS version or manually imported an earlier backup, the history it saved — which can include replies and feedback text — stays on your device until you delete it. Importing learning history into Android does not connect it to the earlier iOS cloud service.

2. Device voice

On iOS, optional playback uses a Japanese voice installed on your device through Apple’s speech synthesis. The app does not send that text to us.

On Android, the app passes playback text to your device’s configured text-to-speech engine. It selects only installed Japanese voices marked as working without a network connection; it does not select network voices or send playback text to our servers. Voice availability depends on the installed engine and voice data.

Neither edition requests microphone or speech-recognition access or records audio. Text and meanings remain available without a suitable voice.

3. Purchases

The complete-course unlock is a one-time, non-consumable in-app purchase. On iOS, Apple processes payment; we never receive card or payment details. The app checks your purchase with Apple’s StoreKit on your device and does not send purchase or transaction information to our service. Buying and restoring may need an internet connection to Apple.

On Android, Google Play processes payment and purchase or restore requests under Google’s privacy practices. We do not receive your card details. The app uses Google Play Billing to query and acknowledge purchases, verifies signed purchase evidence on your device, and keeps that evidence in private local storage excluded from app backups. It does not upload purchase evidence to a developer verification server. Buying, restoring and checking the current purchase status may require a connection to Google Play.

Purchases are associated with the store account used to buy them. Learning-data exports do not contain purchase evidence and cannot grant access or transfer a purchase between Apple and Google Play.

4. Export, import and deletion on your device

In Settings → Learning data you can export a backup file, import one, delete personal history text, or delete all learning data. An exported file is created on your device and goes only where you choose to save or share it. It may include replies and feedback saved by an earlier iOS version, so share it carefully.

On Android, export and import use the system document picker. If you choose a cloud-storage provider or share an export with another service, that provider handles the file under its own privacy practices. The app does not automatically upload the file to us. Automatic Android app cloud backup and device-to-device app-data transfer are disabled; use manual export and import to move learning records.

Deleting local data does not remove exported copies, files you placed with a storage provider, device backups managed by your Apple settings, or purchases and records held by Apple or Google Play. You control those copies through the relevant device, provider or store. Importing a backup does not grant a purchase.

5. Data from earlier iOS versions

Earlier iOS versions of the app offered optional AI feedback through our online service, hosted on Cloudflare. Using it created an anonymous service identity, based on a key from Apple’s App Attest service and not linked to your name, Apple ID or email address; the app kept a session credential for it in the iOS Keychain. If an earlier version never created that identity, our service holds nothing for you. New installations never create one. The Android edition does not use this service, create that identity or provide this iOS cloud-deletion control.

For such an identity, the earlier service held: consent records; AI feedback results for up to 24 hours; usage ledger entries (request identifier, a one-way hash of the reply, time and units used) with no reply text; and, only where a subscription purchase had been verified, purchase verification records. Rate-limit counters used a keyed hash of the IP address and were overwritten within ten minutes. Reply text that you chose to submit for feedback was also processed by our AI provider at the time, DeepSeek, under its own privacy policy; a deletion request to our service cannot delete data held by DeepSeek.

To delete it: if the app still holds an earlier service credential, Settings → Learning data shows Previous cloud data. Tap Delete cloud service data and confirm. The app sends that existing credential to our earlier service — renewing an expired guest credential first if the service still allows it — and asks it to delete the data for that identity. The service deletes cached feedback results and consent records, keeping only a record that deletion occurred. Usage ledger entries (no reply text) and any purchase verification records are kept for billing integrity, abuse prevention, refunds and accounting. After the service confirms, the app removes the credential from the Keychain. If deletion cannot be confirmed, the credential is kept so you can try again or contact us.

Deleting local learning data does not delete service data. If you no longer have the app or do not see this option, email smile@thinksview.com with the approximate time you used AI feedback. Because there are no accounts, we may not be able to identify your data without the credential.

6. This website and support email

This website is hosted on Cloudflare. Cloudflare processes connection information, such as your IP address and request metadata, to deliver and protect the site. We do not add analytics scripts, advertising trackers, cookies or browser-storage identifiers, and there is no sign-up form. Following a store, email or other external link takes you to a service with its own privacy practices.

If you email support, we use the information you choose to include to respond to your request. Please do not send confidential work material, full personal replies or payment information.

7. Legal bases and your rights

Where laws such as the GDPR apply: we process a deletion or privacy request to comply with your request and our legal obligations; we keep the earlier service’s usage ledger and any purchase records based on our legitimate interest in billing integrity and abuse prevention and on legal obligations; and we deliver this website based on our legitimate interest in providing a secure site.

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict or object to processing, to data portability, and to complain to a data protection authority. Learning data on your device is under your control in Settings. For data held by the earlier service, use the in-app deletion request or email smile@thinksview.com; we reply within 30 days.

8. Children

The app is designed for adults preparing for or working in Japanese workplaces. It is not directed to children under 16.

9. Changes

We will update the effective date and version above when this policy changes. This version took effect on October 20, 2026 and adds the Android edition, Google Play purchases, Android device voice and manual backup choices. The October 9, 2026 version described the move to an offline reference without AI feedback or recording. The earlier policy, effective September 19, 2026, described the online feedback service; section 5 summarizes the data that service held.
